Mental Countdown to Christmas

Counselling Minds : Healing Hearts

Already there are Christmas adverts on TV and the countdown has begun where we are led by marketing to believe we should all be having a wonderful time. However, people have their own challenges to face. You may be feeling exhausted, stressed and burntout by work, anxious about your relationships with family and friends, worried and angry about what is happening in the world, feeling depressed about people you love who’ve passed away or generally feeling at a loss yourself. Counselling can be that safe space to talk and find words for how you are feeling. To not be judged or given ‘shoulds and oughts’ in response to you talking about how you feel. How you feel is legitimate - it’s not an excuse.

The Christmas countdown can have both positive and negative effects on mental health. While it can bring excitement and joy, it can also be a stressful time for some. To maintain good mental health during the holiday season, consider setting realistic expectations, managing stress, staying connected with loved ones, and practicing self-care. If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, don't hesitate to seek professional help or support from friends and family.

Counselling can be particularly beneficial during the Christmas countdown for those experiencing heightened stress, anxiety, or depression during this period. Having counselling can provide support, strategies for managing holiday-related stress and a safe space to discuss any emotional challenges or family dynamics that may arise. It's helpful to reach out if you're struggling, as I can help you find words for how you’re feeling and assist you in developing your own coping mechanisms to help you navigate this time of year more effectively.
